Ok so some you may know that for the past 11 months we (our family of six actually now five) have been living life
abroad in the exotic and wet location of Holland, yes we are and have been experiencing life in the Northern part of Europe. For the most part of our so called adventure it’s been quite a romantic one, bike riding the days away, cheese tasting when possible and immersing ourselves in the depths of culture and rich Dutch history. But just like every good romance novel, you have the high times of honeymoon happiness and low times of heartache and missing home. The thrill of new discoveries and breathtaking moments are sometimes dimmed with feelings of loneliness and complete isolation. Lucky for me and our family these moments have been brief and quickly replaced with feelings of gosh happy Gratitude.
Since living life in the Netherlands, we have quickly adapted to mostly days of grey gloomy weather (oops possibly a negative Nancy moment there) always looking for glimpses of sunshine and warmth, with this said I have become rather an expert in finding ways to brighten up a draggy afternoon and thought I would share with you my “lifting your mood recipe”….
A goods night rest – such a delicious body and mind tonic, life seems easier when you are fully rested.
Snuggle up – yes hug it out time, I love it ..find a tree, cuddle a fury friend or wrap your arms around someone you love (20 second rule applies though)
Say I love You – yes words like ” I love you” create such a happy vibration throughout your whole body .
A debrief with a friend – yeah ok sometimes we need to vent, communicating your feelings to a friend can really lighten your emotional load. (a little word of caution… make sure you tag team these sharing moments, it can’t always be about You)
Breathe Deeply – another favorite of mine every morning before I get out of bed I take a few moments to observe and actually feel my breath, it’s great time for intention setting.
Go wild – rekindle your relationship with nature, yes outside time is great for your playful inner child, walk, run, jump in puddles or even climb a tree! Spending moments in the green is really grounding.
Well there are so many ways to lift and inspire yourself , even the simplest of things like telling yourself your OK even when your not, or a freshly brewed cuppa is even medicine for the soul … gratitude is the key ingredient to living and enjoying life’s moments.
Small things really matter..
Stay cheeky, experience everything ..
